Celebrating Driver Appreciation Week – Meet Veritiv Driver, Mike Yaffee

driver appreciation_graphic Veritiv drivers play a critical role in the success of our company. Every day, they are the face of Veritiv – and often the Veritiv employee that our customers see the most.

We will honor these employees as Veritiv celebrates Driver Appreciation Week – and all week long, we’ll be introducing you to some of our dedicated drivers.

Veritiv has more than 1,000 drivers across North America – that’s almost 10% of our workforce. We know their commitment to service and excellence enables Veritiv to shape the success of our customers, shareholders, employees, and suppliers.

MikeYaffee-LaPalmaThe first driver we want to introduce you to is Mike Yaffee. Veritiv may only be a little over a year old, but Mike’s been one of ours for almost 30 years. Mike started working in the warehouse in 1986; in 1994 he became a driver; and now – almost 30 years after he walked through the doors at National Sanitary Supply Co − he’s a Senior Class A Driver at our facility in La Palma, California.

Mike is just one example of how Veritiv can truly be a family affair. Mike’s father was in sales with National Sanitary / Unisource for nearly 30 years, and at the beginning of his career as a driver, Mike was delivering to his father’s customers!.

Even when he’s not at work, Mike loves driving. He collects die-cast cars, he’s NASCAR fanatic, and on the weekends, he and his wife love to take their buggy and quads out to the California desert.

In his spare time, Mike enjoys hanging out with his wife, an elementary school teacher, and their two boys. Mike’s coworkers, who he counts as some of his best friends (two were groomsmen at his wedding, even), want everyone to know that Mike’s favorite music is heavy metal – and he will be seeing his 19th Mötley Crüe show later this year!

Every day, Mike and his colleagues deliver Veritiv solutions with pride – and no matter what time deliveries are made (like many of our drivers, he starts as early as 5am!) he gives our customers the same good service that they expect from Veritiv.

Tomorrow, we’ll introduce you to another driver – whose face you may have seen – Kea Morgan, from our Norcross, GA facility. She’s the driver featured prominently on our billboards, and on our dedicated website for drivers, drive4v.com.

I am always amazed at the longevity some of our drivers have. They are truly a very dedicated team and our customers LOVE them! They are often person the customer sees on a very regular basis. I had the privilege of doing a ride alone when I first started with the company 6 years ago and it was truly quite the experience. The customers loved Tim, one of our drivers out of Hebron KY! He had such a wonderful relationship with most of the accounts he delivered to weekly. It certainly made me realize that the drivers are a critical part of our success on a daily basis. A big thank you to all of our drivers out there!

Congratulations to Mike and all the other very valuable drivers. They play such a key role in the company’s success. Since they interface with “our” customers, their feedback is so important. I say “our” because I have been retired for 4 years now (unbelievable) after 36 years and still have fond memories of National Sanitary and Unisource. I left right before the merger with Veritiv. Here’s to a big hello to Mike, Bob and Sandi from Naples, FL.
